Task 1 | Personification, Big Idea

This week we learned that creating characters is more than just deciding on genre and exploring different art styles. We are to create characters with depth and meaning, convincing narratives, and background stories. Each of us is to produce a character design sheet we intend to work on for this project and realistic studies on the elements and details of the characters.

Here is the exercise that needs to be done

    - Character developments

    - Visual narratives (digital)

    - Final character design sheet

    Character Development (Universe Chosen)

In week 1 we were assigned to choose our first universe where we wanted our new character to be. Which is a game, a movie, or any storyline that includes main characteristics. As for me, I would play a game called Valorant a lot, therefore I was motivated and Inspired by creating a new character for gamers to play and enjoy that character as a main in-game.

A cast of characters, known as agents, adds distinct flavor and personality to the game, each bringing along a unique set of abilities and play styles.

In the beginning, I thought of making the character very wild and haven't thought of any story for the character's background. However, I managed to work through it while doing the concepts and mood boards.

    About Character

I named my character Daniela Jose as my first thought was she has to come from Spain knowing that based on all maps do not the country based on Spain or Mexican, except for Brazil. Daniela Jose's agent's name is Sapphire as she comes from a place with heat and was raised to be independent, therefore I thought that suited her as an agent name. She is able to have the power of the radianite due to her history with her past life. She has the ability to use her bow and arrow to carry her radianite power in order to help her teammates out.

At first, I thought she could be a Duelist, but with the abilities I came up with, it's best for her to become a Controller instead. With her in every 5 teammates, she is able to get them all in site by planting the spike or diffusing the spike itself. I wanted her to have almost the same ability as Reyna but while I did my research I managed to get some comments from some players, knowing Reyna has way too much attraction with her ability and that it is a lot easier for her to dodge bullets from the enemies. From there I did another research on other agents such as Skye where Daniela could have the ability to flash the enemies for her teammates to come into the site, In this case, she has a little whisp from her radianite powers to create that flash. Another ability I was able to create for her is a wide range of globes from her whisps as a shield, this way she is able to diffuse the spike without getting hurt. Sova has the ability to shock dart the enemy and damaged them by losing health, for Daniela could simply shoot the enemy with her fire-shaped arrow. Her Ult is quite similar to Vipers Ult, but Daniela, she could shoot her arrow at one site and the arrow is able to cover the site using the whisps as her wall, from there she could confuse her enemies.

    Moodboard

For my character design, I would like my character to have a very royal-like feature. However, I would like to mix her character feature with the swords-woman look. I didn't want her to look "heavy" in her outfit, so I managed to find some inspirational outfits and weapon designs of interest to fit my character.

    Silhouette and Character Study
For Week 3, we were assigned to do silhouette studies so we are able to study how our characters should look further in progress. As I mentioned previously I wanted my character to look like Reyna but again I have doubts in the middle of the progression.

Below are the 8 thumbnail silhouettes that I created but I did not want to approve them further in progress.

I was sure I wanted my character to have the ghost ability just like Reyna, but as I said previously the character has a lot of attraction towards its ability that it will take a lot of purpose towards the game itself. So I decided to create another proper silhouette to match the character as a controller.

    Feedback
    Week 3 (12/9/22)

    • This was the time when I still wanted my character to look goth. Ms. Anis said I should make the color of the hair change to some sort of a teal blue. As for the outfit maybe I could go for a suit that was inspired by Final Fantasy.
    Week 4 (20/9/22)
    • Bit of improvement on the character anatomy building, Look for more inspiration if you want a "demon" styled beanie for the character to wear. If you would choose a bow and arrow, let's see how your character moves around with the outfit and does it match. Try following the idea of what would the characters in valiant would wear.
    Week 5 (26/9/2022)
    • Ah, I like the changes you made with the character, the change from the beanie to a proper swordswoman hat looks way more better. Try changing the slide clothes and search for the hunchback female character for that as a reference. Good Job!

    Reflection

I enjoyed this class the moment I entered the class, I even have my own Instagram only for OCs. I knew I needed a lot of improvements for my characters, especially on my character color studies, it took a whole new turn when it comes to the middle of the progress. I guess I knew what I really wanted after I further my research. However I get really excited seeing my classmates drawing styles, it is so interesting. I could learn so much from them. One thing that took away my time was my art block, I think so much of a certain design but never take a step outside the box.
That would be a lesson learned from me for this semester. :)
