Project 1 | Stylized Character Blockout

Project 1

In week 6 we were assigned to do a stylized character block-out, we are able to choose what type of character to do for the Anatomy subject. I decided to do the same character that I did for the Character Design class.

To start off, I actually failed a few attempts to do my first block-out of my character. I managed to complete my first block out for an exercise however I tend to fail as I started to do proper character anatomy the second time.

I was quite proud when i finished this first block-out since it was my first time following a reference.

Then I had to come stylizing my character, which is to follow how my character looked in 2D. As a beginner, I was afraid I could never do it. These few pictures were some failed attempts that I tried to do in Maya software.

I was actually proud of the body and face figure I did, but it's not what I was looking for in the 2D character I drew. It was overwhelming when I started designing the clothing for the character.

So I decided to use Z-brush for the first time, although I had to look through a bunch of tutorials given by Mr.Kannan, I managed to understand how to use Z-brush. I managed to create a character I like, however, the character needs a lot of fixing. This leads to my 2nd attempt at failure. In this case, I happened to not explore as much as I should have, I just happen to throw everything I see in the 2D character into the 3D design. So not proud of it.

I had a few feedbacks from Mr.Kanaan that I should try and make my character my own style and try to design better. So, for my final attempt, I decided to go with the flow and explore Z-brush properly.

I actually managed to pull it off, and i was proud of how this character looked because this one happens to come with effort and a little bit of brain crack by looking at so many references.

Well, would you look at that, she's so pretty :')

Character with hair

Mr.Kannan thought us how to do hair with Fibermesh in Z-brush, so I decided to use it instead of sculpting. As you can see that did not go quite as planned. [Fig 1.9

Feedback

The form is looking very un-proportional and you need to look at references in order to understand each style of a character. The legs have to match the muscles and how the pants must flow along the legs. The arms as well.
