Project 2 | Data Collection

Instructions


In the end, our group decided to go for Lion Dance, and for the product, we decided to make it a phone live wallpaper. Our goal is to interact and make this lion dance designs more than just entertainment but something you could use digitally for quite some time. 

Data collection methods 
  • Observation Study
  • Interview of relevant stakeholders (from the lecture series, you may approach any of the guest speakers for an interview, if you deem their presentation useful for further research).
  • Online and/or actual physical material visual research of the selected culture (the people/arts/symbols/architecture/text/calligraphy etc..)
Submission
  • In relevant ways that protect and preserve the collected artifacts and materials.
  • Accompanying descriptions that properly and clearly informed about important information of each artifact and material. 
Task | Data Collection

Research Objectives 
-To study the ideas of the entertainment of Chinese New Year and its festival.
-Being able to understand their culture better instead of celebrating without the knowledge of it.

Research Questions
-To promote the Lion Dance, which consumer product would be the best choice for spreading awareness as well as the CNY spirit?
- We plan on designing such items to represent Lion Dance for CNY, as a way of reviving its cultural significance of it and raising awareness of its true meaning and importance. Do you think such products will be able to promote Lion Dance as well?
- Do you think modern society should learn more about the history of the Lion Dance by incorporating more design aspects of the Lion Dance into daily activities?

I decided to create the miro board for everyone in my group to have their individual ideas, such as the upcoming performances or color boards.

Ideas on our live wallpaper (Lion Dance Theme)
Live wallpaper with a lion dance theme is a good way to show people that the Lion dance is more than just entertainment for the Chinese New Year festival. It can be remembered to bring luck to others as well. Lion Dance was not known enough for its history but just entertainment for Chines New Year. 
Therefore, our goal is not only to apply to the Chinese, but to everyone. It could be well-known in the future. We also had the Idea to upload our designs on the "Zedge Wallpaper" website. Instead of making it free, we decided to sell them. for each money we receive will be a donation to charity. (our designs currently have not been approved)

Feedback

Week 6: -No Feedback- 

Reflection 

This part of the project was quite fun, to be able to explore and understand the Chinese people understanding of the Lion Dance is fun!. I was able to hear some people talk about the legends and battles and the deep history of why the Lion Dance matters and is important. I will definitely continue to understand other cultures and their history. It is important to know why we join the entertainment and be able to seek the approval of other cultures. Not joining in without knowing.
