 Flip 1 (Types of Infographic)

For week 1 Mr. Shamsul briefs us on the different types of infographics and online tools. There are many types of infographics to cater to all sorts of information. As a designer, it is crucial for you to find the right style to engage and communicate information quickly and clearly.

Task 1

We were in the break-out room, so my group and I discussed the different types of infographics such as,

  • List
  • Statistical
  • How-to
  • Timeline
  • Comparison
  • Map and location
  • Flowchart
  • Process description
For 30 minutes, my group and I completed a presentation showing the different types of infographics.

Re-Designing an Infographic Poster

During our classes, we are to re-create a poorly instructed infographic poster through our own experimentation with media and the selected tool.

Issues

  • Quite messy
  • Numbers are zig-zag
  • Unnecessary stickers
  • Image placement
  • Irrelevant Icons
  • Poor headline
  • Un-organized

Sketches of re-design infographic posters

I sketched out 3 designs for the poster, that way it looks more organized than the previous poster chosen.

I personally chose the 3rd sketch because I would like to make it look simple in the design, and not too cluttered.

I used Canva to re-create my design, because the elements and icons, can easily be provided by Canva.
I re-designed from a plain white template and added a minimalist background color with a splash of elements. Afterward, I added an icon for each process shown above.

Rating and Review of the online tool: Canva

Difficulty - 0

I have used Canva ever since I discovered it, and I have never faced any difficulties using it. However, it is not a free application to use, some elements are premium which leads to purchasing it.

Usefulness - 8

It is a very useful application where students like me could whip up a simple poster or social media post anytime and any day. However, It doesn't teach a processing method to new students who discover this application where we could create every element, icon, and template from scratch.

Design Template - 7

As I said previously, Canva is not a free application so some application does need to be purchased or packages that needed to be paid monthly.
