Project 1

Week 1: We were briefed on our new task, writing a dissertation draft with at least 7000 words using the research we did in the previous semester's Research Design Methodology.

The figure below is a guide on how to start the draft itself. I'm glad there is guidance here so I can refer back to it, to complete the assignment.

Fig 1.1 Guide for estimated word count (4/4/23)

This week's task is on a literature review, we are to re-evaluate the articles we chose in methodology and evaluate the similarity and substances. We are to demonstrate and create an argument for our writings. We identify the sub-section literature review themes via the literature review matrix.

In google classroom, Dr. Hayati has given several guides on how to start our literature review.

Here is the planning matrix for my literature review.

After feedback from Dr. Hayati, I made a few changes to the review and moved to google sheets instead.

After planning out everything, we start with our draft dissertation.

I rephrased most of my sentences and had to make changes to a few of my sub-sections

After getting some feedback from Dr. Hayati, I needed to add more to my sub-sections. Afterward, I added the picture figure onto the pages.

Afterward, I completely forgot that I needed to fix my cover page and also needed to paraphrase some of the words. Then I finalized my work and completed the table figures and picture credits as well.

Week 2 -

Literature Matrix - The only thing that you should have included was the similarity and differences when you finished the 5 articles. Sometimes it helps you defend the argument. When you don't have the compare and contrast, in your particular literature review later you're probably will have one text invitation, unless you have identified the similarity and differences in a specific topic not just article by article, it could be let's say for example talking about visual narrative article 1 and author 1 and article 4 there's a different statement talking about visual narrative. So what are the similarity and differences under the main topic of visual narrative by different authors? You could leverage it from there by doing your literature review. Anatomy? what are they defined as by authors 1 author 2,3,4 and 5? It allows you to have rich synthesizing in your literature review matrix. Demonstrate that you can be critical.

Sub Topics - The argument part can be reflected in every section that you disagree with the author, to demonstrate that you are a critical thinker. You don't have to write the argument as the title but it can be staged in every paragraph. In my view when you have 2.1 (a mixture of culture of science and art) suddenly it goes to the history of animation. Looking at the hierarchy of the discussion, i thought the sense of biology of science could be under the subheader of the history of energy. Normally an overview is a glimpse. Before the history of art could be related could be biology. Do not delete this, make it a draft and make a new one. Currently, you need to make an argument with the article. You did not declare that you were arguing. it's lagging in the statement, I need you to revisit and modify it. It should evolve within what you review. You wanna make an argument but give sound reasoning.

Draft dissertation - You got your skeleton out, so it's more profile. Please check your subheader and rearrange them properly, and review them to make a proper contrast and make a better comparison. It only requires a few discussions, you gotta see how to structure your thoughts.

Week 3 - No Feedback -

Week 4 -

General feedback
  • According to your seniors' work, they have analyzed their first section, all the way to the end. Not only have they backed up their statement and their arguments with the table givens, but this is also how it should be so the viewers will understand as they read this dissertation.

  • On that note, the analysis that was given by you would be a great start, refer back to your data again, and use it to back up your statement.

  • Revisit your previous research methods, and understand the critical reviews.

Week 5 -

General feedback

  • Your seniors' work has applied tables into their sections in order for the readers to understand.

  • Make sure to re-write some of your sections in order to have your sections make sense.

  • Please add citations in your paragraph. (And sections)
