Exercise: Good & Bad Art Direction

Week 1 | (Let's play among us!)

This week, we were briefed and presented about Art Direction by Ms.Anis. Later we were told to play the Among Us game to understand the good and bad of the Art Direction itself. To understand the basics, we are also going to compare the game with goose goose duck. I was quite unsure myself what game that was until I tried it with the groupmates I was in.

Week 2 | Game Art Analysis

This week, our team proceeded with our game analysis. I decided to create a miro board template. That way my group and I are able to compile our weekly progress and gather some references on Among Us and Goose Goose Duck. There were 4 main categories which were character design, environment design, and user interface design including animation, since we have an animator in our group. Each of our members will have to post a reference picture or ideas to reflect their individual insight towards the game visual without commenting too much on the game mechanic. Later we did a summary on what the game is about and a little bit of comparison.

Week 3 | Research

We proceeded to do further research regarding the games. especially the games that are similar to us, other than Goose Goose Duck.

Week 4 | Good Vs Bad Art Direction

As for this week, we were tasked to compile our progress on the game analysis we completed during the previous weeks.

Week 5 | Design Exploration and Proposal Presentation

This week, our teammates were required to come out with ideas and sketches for the 4 main categories, which are character design environment design, and user interface design. After completing them, we will need to compile the final design proposal. As for me, I will be working on the environment design. So I started off by letting my team know that perhaps I would stick to a similar design as the original but rather enhance them instead based on our research.

Week 8 - 13 | Consultations and Progressions

Time really does goes faster when you're having fun haha, well not really, a lot of miscommunications and time management issues. Alas we have to make it work in the end. So, along the way we showed progress online with Ms. Anis, along with my environment as well.

Along the way, I also helped Sea with the character design and the background design of the scene, such as the hand movement and the robot drawing the gun.
